Abstract:		 The results of historic building recording carried out by South West Archaeology Ltd. (SWARCH) for the Old Forge at Monkokehampton, in advance of its restoration and conversion to a dwelling. The Old Forge is a traditional cob-built Devon building and is of considerable architectural and historical interest, for its surviving phases of lateral stack and forge structures, representing a more complex layered domestic and working narrative. It has been compromised by late 20th century repairs after a devastating fire, including the loss of most of the front elevation and roof. The conversion of this building will ensure its long-term survival, as a lack of maintenance in the last decades of the 20th century and poor-quality modern repairs led to significant risk to its historic integrity and structural cohesion.
