Abstract: |
Wessex Archaeology Ltd was commissioned by Morgan Sindall Plc to undertake an archaeological watching brief to mitigate the potential loss of archaeological remains during groundworks associated with the renewal of sewage main between Long Lawford and Rugby, Warwickshire (Figure 1). An archaeological desk-based assessment (DBA) of the Scheme was prepared by Wessex Archaeology in January 2011. The renewal of the sewage main involved the excavation of 24 pits to allow for the insertion of the new pipeline through the direction drilling method. Archaeological monitoring took place in areas where the Scheme passed through areas of archaeological potential as identified in the DBA. Few archaeological deposits were identified during the work. A buried soil associated with extant ridge and furrow was identified at the western end of the Scheme. The remains of a field boundary were also identified in this area. |
