Abstract: |
Archaeological Research Services Ltd has been commissioned to undertake an archaeological evaluation on Nursery Street, Sheffield as planning permission has been granted for the demolition of existing buildings and erection of a mixed used development including three interconnected blocks, two at 12 storeys and one at 7 storeys, incorporating 268 residential units and two commercial units at ground floor with associated parking, landscaping, servicing and access. he evaluation identified the truncated remains of an 18th Century former soil horizon in the south-east of the site, industrial features and 11 cellars tentatively dated to the 19th Century, and foundation features from the 20th Century. The results of the evaluation suggest the potential for further archaeological remains of 19th Century cellars and foundation remains from the 20th Century. |
