Abstract: |
The archaeological evaluation was planned to comprise of eight evaluation trenches, seven of which were 20m x 2m and one of 10m x 2m in size. These were dug by machine before further investigation by hand. The archaeological evaluation was planned to comprise of eight evaluation trenches, seven of which were 20m x 2m and one of 10m x 2m in size.Trench one was not excavated due it being located out of the site area, within the footprint of existing inhabited buildings. The stratigraphic makeup of the area showed small pockets of surviving brickearth overlain by layers of made ground. The brickearth was noted to have been severely truncated by modern building works across the site. There were no archaeological features of note, with the exception of evidence of the 19th century terraced housing in trenches two and three. |
