Abstract:
Following a geophysical survey and evaluation, the archaeological advisor required preservation in situ of significant concentration of archaeological features in south-west of site, part of Late Iron Age-Early Romano-British settlement, and further observation/investigation (watching brief) on groundwork across remainder of site. This careful monitoring mainly of narrow cable trenches for solar arrays only revealed ditches in CCTV cable trench along south-west perimeter of site (adjacent to area of preservation in situ). These were not impacted and so unexcavated but surface pottery recovered was of LIA/ERB and Late RB date. The watching brief was successful in corroborating the earlier results by confirming that the limit of the Late Iron Age-Early Romano-British settlement is within the area preserved in situ. A statement of potential and proposals in relation to the results from all phases of archaeological investigations associated with the solar photovoltaic farm development is outlined within the report, which will lead to the production of a short article to be submitted to the county journal, Northamptonshire Archaeology.
