Abstract: |
A detailed gradiometry survey was conducted over approximately 34.5 hectares of arable land. The survey has identified two areas of probable Iron Age/Roman settlement activity, along with several other enclosures across the site. A number of possible archaeological anomalies may also relate to settlement activity in the area, however their exact origin cannot be determined with confidence. A number of former field boundaries, areas of ridge and furrow cultivation, and modern ploughing suggest that the area has been used for agricultural activity since the medieval period. The remaining anomalies are modern in origin relating to former quarry tramways, ferrous objects, and fencing. |
