Abstract:		 In May 2012 a watching brief was maintained on the construction of a single-storey extension to the rear of 27 Castle Street, Berkhamsted. The watching brief revealed that the area had been heavily disturbed, probably in the 19th and 20th centuries. Medieval activity on the site was attested by the presence of residual Hertfordshire Greyware sherds amongst 19th-century deposits. Based on the observations made, it appears unlikely that the development will have any significant impact on features, finds or deposits of earlier periods.
