Abstract:		 A watching brief was undertaken on the construction of an extension of an existing dwelling at 55 Bridgewater Road, berkhamsted, Hertfordshire in June 2010. The work was required due to the proximity of a Roman kiln, and of late Iron Age industrial activity further to the north-west. Although survival of similar types of deposits was theoretically possible, none were found on this site. An original land surface did survive on the western side of the site, but no artefacts were recovered during the course of the watching brief.
