Abstract: |
This report presents the results of archaeological evaluation trenching that was carried out by South West Archaeology Ltd. (SWARCH) for a residential development at None Go By, Welcombe, Hartland, Devon. Three 1m wide by 23m wide (total) and 0.10m to 0.45m deep trenches were excavated by machine using a toothless grading bucket and under archaeological supervision. A fourth trench that was proposed to be situated across the access to the site was not excavated due to the presence of an existing septic tank and associated drainage and modern service. The stratigraphy of the site was comprised of: mid to dark grey-brown soft slightly silty loam clay topsoil (100/200/300) across the site, mid brown soft silt clay subsoil (101) to the south-east and mid slightly brown-grey mottled soft clay subsoil (301) to the south-west, and bedrock natural (103/201/302) across the site. The results of the archaeological monitoring and recording indicated that there were no archaeological deposits present, and no archaeological features were identified. |
