Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was mounted on the groundworks for a new residential development. The first phase comprised the monitoring of the excavation of the foundations for Plots 1-3 along with two detached garages to Plots 2 and 3. This yielded negative results. Consequently, the remaining three plots were not monitored.
The excavation of a service trench by Tillbridge Lane along with road works on Tillbridge Lane, a Roman road were monitored. No archaeological horizons which could be associated with the Roman road on Tillbridge were identified. The excavation of a service trench to the south of the road was also monitored. No southern roadside flanking ditch or Roman roadside settlement activity were identified. No archaeological activity was identified and there were no finds. |
