Abstract: |
Archaeological monitoring and recording was undertaken by Oakford Archaeology in January 2023 during works associated with the extension of the existing basketball pitch on land at Glastonbury Abbey, Glastonbury, Somerset.
The work comprised the excavation of an area 22m long, 12.5m wide and to a depth of 0.3m to the north and east of the existing basketball court. The works consisted of cut and fill, with the existing basketball court excavated to a maximum depth of 0.3m below current ground level, while the excavations along the northern edge consisted of the removal of the turves. The excavations revealed a simple deposit sequence, and no deposits, features or dating evidence indicative of archaeological activity were found. Nothing of significance was found |
