Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was carried out by Oakford Archaeology in April 2022 on land at No. 2 Maunders Hill, Otterton, Devon. The work comprised the hand excavation of 3 test pits totalling 4.4m in length, with each test pit 1.2m wide. These provided a spatial sample of the site.
No archaeological features were found in the proposed development area. Excavation revealed a series of modern made ground deposits, the result of the construction of the houses in the immediate post-war period, overlying the original ground surface across the central and eastern part of the site.
Evidence for post-medieval activity consisted of 127 pottery sherds recovered from the topsoil. Nothing of significance was found |
