Abstract: |
Watching brief. The works to be monitored consisted of the excavation of 23 pits for the purpose of planting trees. No significant archaeological deposits were encountered during the course of the watching brief. No deposits or finds were identified relating to the Roman settlement at Stratford-sub-Castle or the wider Romano-British landscape surrounding the site. Chalk and gravel natural was encountered in each of the excavated pits. The finds assemblage consisted of a single King George V penny dating to 1930, and recovered from the topsoil. |
