| Title | ARCHAEOLOGICAL INVESTIGATION AT ST MARY THE VIRGIN, CHURCH WALK, WESTON TURVILLE, BUCKINGHAMSHIRE |
| Description | John Moore Heritage Services carried out an archaeological investigation at St Mary the Virgin, Weston Turville, Buchinghamshire (NGR SP 85919 10276) during groundwork for a new single storey extension to the church. A total of 26 skeletons were recorded in the building footprint area, with two additional possible burials identified in section in the eastern soakaway. All of the identified skeletons were found within earth cut graves; however, the cuts of the graves were rarely visible, due to the nature of the graveyard soils. The date range of the burials is uncertain, although the presence of coffins indicates a post-medieval date for at least 11 of the burials, as inhumation within a coffin became popular in the early 18th century. |
