Digital Object Identifiers

Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) are persistent identifiers which can be used to consistently and accurately reference digital objects and/or content. The DOIs provide a way for the ADS resources to be cited in a similar fashion to traditional scholarly materials. More information on DOIs at the ADS can be found on our help page.

Overview

This archive contains historic and environmental data from before the Royal Assent was granted for the construction of HS2. The archive is split into three sections relating to geographic areas according to the HS2 route.

C251 London Metropolitan

The first section, Contract C251, covers the London Metropolitan area from the first station on the HS2 line, Euston, to Ickenham in the Borough of Ickenham. This section is then split into 6 geographical Community Forum Area (CFA). These areas are reflected in the Environmental Statement:.

  • CFA01 - Euston
  • CFA02 - Camden Town
  • CFA03 - Primrose Hill to Kilburn
  • CFA04 - Kilburn to Old Oak Corridor
  • CFA05 - Northolt Corridor
  • CFA06 - South Ruislip to Ickenham

The data in these six CFA collections comprises of site photographs and site visit photographs, historic background information, a range of reports relating to the heritage sites and Historic Environment Reports, and potential damage assessments due to the construction.

C252 Country South

The second section, C252, spans from the Colne Valley, just west of London to Lower Boddington in West Northamptonshire. This section is split into CFA areas 7 to 15:.

  • CFA07 - Colne Valley
  • CFA08 - The Chalfonts and Amersham
  • CFA09 - Central Chilterns
  • CFA10 - Dunsmore, Wendover and Halton
  • CFA11 - Stoke Mandeville and Aylesbury
  • CFA12 - Waddesdon and Quainton
  • CFA13 - Calvert, Steeple Claydon, Twyford and Chetwode
  • CFA14 - Newton Purcell to Brackley
  • CFA15 - Greatworth to Lower Boddington

Each CFA includes a range of background information comprising archaeological and build heritage survey reports, designation information, archaeological research frameworks, HER information, aerial photographs and historic maps.

This archive also includes site-specific outputs, comprising site visit/walkover survey notes and photographs, risk mapping and landscape characterisation. It also includes Written Schemes of Investigation for targeted geophysical and fieldwalking surveys, as well as the attendant reporting.

The HS2 route goes through and near many conservation areas and therefore this section includes specific conservation area appraisals, conservation area maps including the proposed railway route, and descriptive reports. Accompanying this are a range of spreadsheets documenting the risk associated to the cultural heritage and archaeology along the route, this details the impact of construction to the heritage and overall landscape. Details of historic railways in each area is also included along with historic descriptions of district parishes and what they entail, including details of some historically significant and Listed buildings within those parishes.

C254 Birmingham Metropolitan

The Birmingham Metropolitan section, C254, covers from Balsall Common, Solihull to the final station in Phase 1 of HS2, Curzon Street, Birmingham. This is split into four CFA geographical boundaries as follows:

  • CFA23 - Balsall Common and Hampton in Arden
  • CFA24 - Birmingham Interchange and Chelmsy Wood
  • CFA25 - Castle Bromwich and Bromford
  • CFA26 - Washwood Heath to Curzon Street

Each CFA includes a range of background information comprising archaeological and build heritage survey reports, designation information, archaeological research frameworks, HER information, aerial photographs and historic maps.

This archive also includes site-specific outputs, comprising site visit/walkover survey notes and photographs, risk mapping and landscape characterisation. It also includes Written Schemes of Investigation for targeted geophysical surveys, as well as the attendant reporting.

This archive includes LiDAR data covering parts of this section and geotechnical desk assessments. Palaeoenvironmental data is also included. s.

Reuse Value

This data is useful as a legacy of the largest archaeological EIA ever undertaken in the UK. There may be potential for re-use following completion of the project in terms of cross comparison. For example, comparison of projected impacts on heritage significance vs actual impacts could help to inform future EIAs. Integration with the excavation and PX archives of HS2 may be possible.
