Distinctive Features

This form has a wide mouth with a slightly everted rim, a heavy cylindrical neck, flattened handles, and a piriform body leading to a long hollow spike. It can be ascribed to the broader Dressel 7-11 and Beltrán 1 groupings (García Vargas, 1998).

Origin

This type was produced in many workshops situated in the coastal areas of southern Spain (Cádiz and Málaga provinces) (Beltrán Lloris, 1970; Lagostena Barrios, 1996; García Vargas, 1998).

The western Roman provinces, the German limes, and the eastern Mediterranean region. Examples are known from Pompeii, Rome, Ostia, Oberaden, Haltern, Rödgen, Zaragoza and Caesaraea Maritima
