LRA 2 fabric |

Visual characteristicsHard, fine-grained fabric, generally smooth where undecorated, light buff (10YR 8/4) to light red (2.5YR 6/6) in colour. There are often scattered white limestone fragments up to 3 mm across readily visible and with a little mica. |
PetrologyThin sectioning shows a scatter of subangular quartz grains ranging from 0.07-0.3 mm in size, fragments of cryptocrystalline limestone with occasional traces of fossils, flecks of muscovite mica and small amount of chert, plagioclase feldspar and metamorphic quartzite (Peacock, 1984b). This assemblage clearly indicates a source area dominated by sedimentary rocks, and many areas would qualify on this basis (Peacock & Williams, 1986: Class 43). |
