Description: Alleged medieval moat surrounding Orfold Farm. It was partially filled in 1855. Field investigations in 1970 recorded a stretch of water, 100 metres in length, within in a hollow, 50 metres west of the farmhouse. This appears to be very doubtful evidence for a moat, as the hollow is part of a coombe traceable for 300 metres, northeast across a pasture field as far as the Wisborough Green - Billingshurst road. No traces of a moat elsewhere around the farmhouse were identified. The house is 18th century or late 19th century in date incorporating a building of probable 16th or 17th century date.
