Description: Excavations to the rear of the former Mason's Arms Public House in Spital Street were carried out between November 1989 and March 1990 prior to the redevelopment of the site. Finds included part of a 19th century gravestone, probably a waste piece from the adjacent stone mason's yard; several rubbish pits with 18th/19th century pottery and glass, medieval pottery, Roman brooch, pottery and tiles, and an 18th Century clay pipe workshop.
