Description: The site of St Nicholas's Church, demolished in 1735. The above ground remains comprise a slightly raised area, covered by a scatter of building debris including bricks and roof tiles. The foundations of the church survive below ground and are visible as a faint parchmark. The area occupied by the churchyard is also indicated only by slight earthworks, but 16th century maps show it to have been roughly 100 metres long by 20 metres wide with the church depicted in the centre. Documentary sources suggest that the church dates from the 15th century and 15th to 16th century Flemish floor tiles have been recovered from the site. However, the below ground remains could reveal an earlier date of construction or the existence of an earlier building on the site.
