Description:
Site of a water powered mill of Medieval date.
Fairbank Mill is elusive but may have been sited where Somervell suggests near the track from Low Fairbank (now Fairbank Farm) to Reston Mill and Staveley. Documents refer to a mill from 1320 and in 1720 mention is also made of a kiln at the site. See 'Water-power Mills of South Westmorland' by Somervell in 1930 (S1410 p. 16). Also recorded by M Davies-Shiel as a Fulling Mill on his 1990 map (S1286).
