Lancashire County Council stone triangle. "Southport District Highway Board" inscribed on the upper face. "Southport 7 1/2 miles" inscribed on the left face. "Liverpool 13 miles" inscribed on the right face.
The milestone does not appear on the 1st edition 25" OS map of 1893.
The milestone first appears on the 2nd edition 25" OS map of 1908.
The milestone is labelled as a milepost on the 2nd edition and 3rd edition 25" maps as well as the 6" map of 1938.
Highway Boards were created by the Highways Act 1862 and abolished by the Local Government Act 1894. The 1st edition 25" OS map of 1893 was surveyed in 1892 so the stone must date to 1892-4.
