Abstract: Summarises the results of a current National Museums of Scotland-lead collaborative project on Early Bonze Age faience jewellery in Britain, Ireland and adjacent areas of mainland north-west Europe, attempting to demonstrate that the use of this material in Scotland can only be understood by examining the social and economic dynamics of a much larger area. Also attempts to correct the misconception that faience was introduced to Britain around 1400BC by 18th-Dynasty Egyptian or Mycenaean traders.
