Abstract: Place-names, historical evidence and landscape archaeology are used to examine the effects on the landscape of Anglo-Saxon immigration in a frontier zone on either side of the Cam valley, which formed the ancient boundary between Anglia and Mercia. An unexpected degree of continuity between Roman and Middle Saxon periods is observed.
