Abstract: An examination of the cathodoluminescence (CL) and induced thermoluminescence (TL) properties of chert. Suggests that the application of these techniques may provide a useful criterion in establishing the number of chert varieties or sourcing chert provenance for artefacts collected from archaeological sites.
