Abstract: Documentary evidence of this small Augustinian house, records of early 19th century excavations, and observations during recent building operations allow a tentative plan to be drawn and a constructional sequence from 12th to 17th century suggested. Work started with the E end of the church at end 12th century, and the remainder of the church and most of the cloister range was complete by 1294. Insertion of the shrine of St Edburg (consecrated 1312) necessitated major alterations to the E end, and the S aisle was renovated. The end of 14th and beginning of 15th century saw further work at the E end. The N cloister walk was widened in early 14th century at the time of alterations to the S aisle. The Prior's lodging was extended several times during 14th century, and in 1420s the canons dorter was rebuilt. Finds recovered include tiles, ornamental stonework and some pottery.
