Abstract: The pre-Roman Celtic name may have been Corioritum, meaning 'the hosting ford'. It appears in a corrupt form (Corstopitum) in the Antonine Itinerary, while in the Ravenna Cosmography its first element coria is conflated with the separate place-name Epiacum to give Corielopocarium. D G
