Abstract: The best candidate for Cartimandua's capital is Stanwick, where recent work has considerably revised Wheeler's interpretation. The quantity and nature of the Roman material thence matches expectations for a client ruler; and Tacitus' two accounts of the divorce and warfare can be conflated. Some forts hitherto believed Agricolan may need to be reattributed to Cerialis or even Frontinus.
