Abstract: |
An excavation at Blackhall Road, Oxford, revealed significant remains of several periods, the most numerous dating from medieval into early post-medieval times and adding to the understanding of the later development of Oxford. However, two sets of features of regional or possibly national significance were also present. A mass grave lay below the medieval levels on the site; a programme of radiocarbon dating to establish the age of the human remains is underway. Below the mass grave was a substantial ditch containing Early Bronze Age pottery in its deeper fills, which has been confidently interpreted as part of a henge. LD |
