Abstract: Excavation in advance of road construction confirmed that the continuous hedge at Tapster Lane (Lapworth) overlay the previously excavated Hobditch linear earthwork. A single 14C date of 2530±90~BP was obtained from an associated ditch. This suggests that the earthwork is pre-Roman but cannot be regarded as a definitive date for the monument. Survey work indicated traces of two other possible alignments of earthworks which may show that Hobditch forms part of a territorial earthwork complex. However, a second excavation at Nuthurst Lane (Hockley Heath) failed to confirm one of the possible alignments. The earthworks are discussed in the context of other recent discoveries in central and southern England. The site archive and finds are stored in Warwickshire Museum. Details of the `Field survey' are given by Richard Hingley (50-1), and `Soil analysis' by Matthew Canti (54).
