Abstract: Reports the discovery of a Romano-Egyptian pottery lamp in the area around Thaxted windmill. Despite being ancient in date it is not thought to indicate any form of Romano-British occupation, but rather a modern loss. Finds of Roman coins and other material including a copper alloy Roman brooch and medieval spindle whorls are thought to be the result of casual loss, their location being explained by a pathway whose use is thought to date from antiquity. Fieldwalking was undertaken to elucidate the situation and further reinforced the conclusions.
