Abstract: |
A reconsideration of the remains of a cuirass recovered from a pit at Newstead, including a detailed examination of the surviving components, discussion of the problems encountered in previous attempts to reconstruct the cuirass, and consideration of other finds of the same type of armour as well as iconic evidence from Alba Iulia. The author looks at dating evidence and at the question of whether the related finds are variants or a single type, before proposing a new reconstruction and concluding with a discussion on the design's place in the development and history of Roman armour. |
