Abstract:
A new series of fifteen determinations has been made on freshly excavated charcoal and bone samples taken before the final destruction by quarrying of the hillfort. These indicate that the first rampart dates to about 5th century BC, and suggest that the 9th/8th century dates obtained previously relate to some other feature. The outer defences have 14C dates towards the end of the Iron Age, and bone high up in the ditch suggests the possibility of post-Roman occupation.
