Abstract: |
At least seventeen phases were revealed by excavation, starting with the important early church of Paulinus (7th century) with a complete decorated hanging bowl of early 7th buried in a central, otherwise empty grave. Subsequent development of the church is summarized (three Saxon periods, two Norman, etc) and the west tower has been proved no earlier than late 14th century in date. |
