Abstract: Archaeological investigations in advance of residential redevelopment close to the centre of the historic town of Highworth, near Swindon, revealed evidence of a brick-making industry that operated during the mid- to late-seventeenth century. A series of associated pits reflected successive phases of clay extraction over the period AD 1600--1800 providing raw material for the manufacture of bricks, some fired in a lozenge-shaped kiln. Other finds provided evidence for Romano-British, Anglo-Saxon and medieval activity either on the site or nearby. Separately authored contributions include
