Abstract: Account of correspondence between the eighteenth-century scholars Edward Lye and Eric Benzelius the Younger concerning an Offa penny bearing the name of the moneyer Botred in runes, along with an overview of modern research into these coins. The history of the coin is traced from its minting in around AD 790 to its current location in the Royal Coin Cabinet in Stockholm.
