Abstract: Reports the excavation of part of the Rudston A cursus in advance of the development of a gas drill site. The two ditches of the cursus were recorded seventy metres apart. A five metre section of each ditch was excavated, with dating evidence from the eastern ditch indicating a Middle Neolithic date. This date is somewhat earlier than previously thought for the Rudston A cursus, but is consistent with the range of dates for other such cursus monuments in the country. Grimston style and All-Over-Corded Beaker pottery sherds, recovered from the site, may have been associated with the construction and abandonment phases. Includes separately authored reports on:
