Abstract: A project undertaken by Bolsterstone Local History Group with the University of Sheffield aimed to establish whether or not Bolsterstone had ever had a castle. Following geophysical survey, excavations revealed evidence of medieval occupation, including a building that seemed to have formed the corner of a high-status residential complex, perhaps a fortified manor house. However, many questions remain to be answered. LD
