Abstract: Two documents recently excavated at Vindolanda mention Londinium: one is a personal letter to a member of the governor's staff, and the other (giving the earliest dated mention of London ever found by archaeologists) is a list of the disposition of detachments from the Cohort of Tungrians. This mentions that twelve troops were stationed in London, 336 at Corbridge, sixteen with the governor, and a few with Ferox (?provincial curator). Some 160 other documents have been discovered in 1988 alone.
