Abstract: In conjunction with the experimental earthwork on acidic soil at Wareham, in which glass is showing signs of deterioration after only five years, it was decided to experiment with the still faster deterioration to be expected in a limestone environment. Nine samples identical to the Wareham set and including glasses made to Roman and medieval specifications were buried in a limestone quarry at Ballidon. While the "Roman" and modern samples showed no signs of attack after one year, the two "medieval" types were deteriorating at a very much faster rate than the Wareham samples.
