Abstract: A total of thirty nine examples of this type have been identified. They are always very finely crafted and have at least a dozen specific characters, in dimensions, shape, and relation of parts. The geographic range of the type in Britain north and south is wide, but is very restricted east and west. Their function is thought to be ceremonial.
