Abstract: Reports the results of limited excavations in the bailey during 1984 and 1985 -- before and after work to stabilise the curtain wall. Clear evidence for primary occupation in the twelfth century and a substantial masonry building phase in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries was revealed.
