Abstract: | Crummy's hypothesis of a 4-pole module was tested on this 'green-field' late 9th century town. Here the first structural element was the internal path all round the defences, set out as a 96-pole near-perfect square. This created further regularities in the town's internal features and it is shown that the mathematical sequence 2-4-8-16 (etc) was in use. Comparisons with Burghal Hidage figures are made. | ||
