Abstract: The paper reviews pre-twentieth century and recent evidence for the existence of a Roman road between Ambleside and the Keswick area via Dunmail Raise, and attempts to provide further support for the claim that it existed by an analysis of the complex of road-remains to be found on the north slope of Dunmail Raise.
