Abstract: Note concerning a stretch of old road, now disused, connecting the Alston-Penrith road and an ancient road through Renwick, both of which are considered to be of Roman origin. It is argued that the stretch of road under discussion also has characteristics indicative of a Roman origin. The stone bridge by which the old road crosses Ricker Gill is described, and the author suggests that the lower part of it may be Roman.
