Abstract: Selected areas were surveyed by fieldwalking during 1984 and 1985, as part of a Lake District National Park Survey by the Lancaster University Archaeological Unit. Somewhere in the region of 150 monuments, ranging from Bronze Age clearance cairns to relatively modern lime kilns, were recorded under sixty-five site headings. It is hoped that further fieldwork on similar areas will increase understanding of this type of upland landscape. IH
