Abstract: Elm, a settlement on the silt fen around the Wash, was systematically field-walked and relevant documents, air photographs etc were studied. Some forty-five sites ranging from Palaeolithic to medieval date are catalogued, and much information about local drainage and Roman period and later topography was obtained. D R Wilson adds a note on groups of circles in the silt fens, apparently post-Roman but of unknown function.
