Abstract: Article describing repair and renovation works to elements of Chester Cathedral, including the removal of some 550 tons of soil and 80 tons of broken stone from the pockets of the groining in the cloisters and other places. The broken stones included fragments of all periods from Norman times onwards. During the works evidence of Early English architecture was noted, and some faulty building work of the medieval period was exposed. LD
