Abstract: In 1957 a hoard of Roman coins of the mid-third century AD comprising about 2500 debased antoniniani was found at Woolstencroft Farm, three miles west of Altrincham. Further coins that most likely originated from the hoard have been found near the original findspot in the ensuing decades, and these are described briefly alongside the main hoard in this article. Comparisons are drawn with other substantial coin hoards of the mid-third century recorded in the North West. The implications of the hoards with regard to the contemporary political mood in Britain are considered. LD
