Abstract: NZ 05 6581. The site published by E J W Hildyard in 1951 as a fortlet has been reinterpreted following fresh excavation as a double-ditched rectilinear enclosure of 2nd century AD containing at least one short-lived timber house. After a century's abandonment a new ditch was dug and structures (presumably native) of undressed stone were built; these were demolished and burnt in mid 4th century, perhaps as a military precaution in view of its proximity to Dere Street. A few samian sherds and a quantity of coarse pottery are catalogued.
